Meet The New Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor
When Murphy chose not to reappoint Andrew Carey, he had to step down. Who replaced him? Chris Kuberiet, a longtime assistant prosecutor.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — When Gov. Phil Murphy chose not to renew the appointment of Andrew Carey as Middlesex County prosecutor, the county's top law enforcement officer had no choice but to step down. Carey, a highly respected prosecutor known for being tough on crime and playing no favorites, returned to the U.S. Attorney's office, where he worked in the past.
So who replaced him? For now, Chris Kuberiet, pictured above, is the acting Middlesex County Prosecutor; he was sworn in Tuesday of this week. Kuberiet is no stranger to the office, having served as an assistant Middlesex County prosecutor for the past 29 years.
When he was first sworn into the job in 1990, Kuberiet was first assigned to the juvenile unit. He thereafter held assignments in the sex crimes unit, the gang and career criminal unit and the major crimes unit, and served as a trial team leader and zone prosecutor. He also led the juvenile unit and major crimes.
