EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Middlesex County announced Wednesday it will be opening a new vaccine site in East Brunswick.

The new site is at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center. This site will be open only when vaccines are available.

County Commissioner Director, Ronald G. Rios said that Middlesex County has taken a “multi-tiered approach” to fighting COVID-19, and that the new vaccine locations are a “logical step” in that direction.

“By opening more COVID-19 vaccine sites throughout the County, we can support the State in administering and dispensing the vaccine to all eligible residents efficiently,” Rios said in a statement.

In addition to the vaccine “mega-site” which opened in Edison last week, the county announced six new sites. They are:

  • East Brunswick Community Arts Center
  • Middlesex County Fire Academy in Sayreville (This was one of the first sites to open, which until today was only open to police, firefighters and healthcare workers. It is now open to the general public.)
  • Monroe Township Senior Center
  • The Heldrich Hotel and Conference Center in New Brunswick
  • Middlesex County Office of Health Services in Piscataway
  • Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School in Perth Amboy

These vaccination sites will be open based on vaccine supply to Middlesex County. Currently the state is facing a shortage of vaccines.

"With the expansion of eligibility into more categories, there are now many more people who are eligible to get vaccinated, but our vaccine supply is still very limited and will be for some time," Department of Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli said Tuesday.

Residents are eligible for vaccination based on the state’s phased approach. Eligible recipients in Phase 1A and part of Phase 1B are now being vaccinated.

The county is administering the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccine, and recipients have the option to choose.

However, recipients need to register through the state’s website to receive the vaccine. The new site locations do not have their own online registration portals.
