One Dead in Church Lane Accident

A 16-year-old died Monday after the car he was a passenger in hit a tree on Church Lane. The victim was one of five passengers in the car

A 16-year-old man was killed Monday after the car he was a passenger in served off the road and hit a tree on Church Lane.

According to police, East Brunswick police units, the East Brunswick Rescue Squad, Milltown Rescue Squad, Spotswood Rescue Squad, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Paramedics and East Brunswick District 3 Fire Company responded to the scene at approximately 9:25 p.m.

The driver, Julian Witt, 20, of Spotswood, was driving his 2005 Ford Crown Victoria on Church Lane when he suddenly left the roadway and struck a tree.  There were five juvenile passengers, ranging in age from 14-17, inside the vehicle.  The driver and all five passengers were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with complaints of pain to their chests.  One of the 16-year-old male back seat passengers later succumbed to his injuries and died, police said.

The accident is still under investigation. If anyone was a witness to the collision or has any information regarding the collision, they are asked to contact Patrolman Thomas Kienle of the East Brunswick Police Department’s Special Operations Section at 732-390-6969.

The identities of the juvenile passengers are not being released at this time.
