One Injured When Vehicle Strikes Route 18 Median In East Brunswick, Goes Airborne

A 55-year-old man was injured Friday when his vehicle struck the center median on Route 18 and went airborne, police said.
At approximately 11:37 a.m. a black Chevy Suburban, driven by Eugene Escandon, 55, of Port Reading was traveling northbound on Route 18 in the left lane when he suffered a medical emergency causing him to lose control of his vehicle.
The Suburban then struck the center median. The vehicle then went airborne before striking the traffic light stanchion and coming to a stop on the southbound lanes of Route 18 at the intersection of Cindy Way.

Escandon was treated by Spotswood Rescue Squad and Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment.
Several passing motorists stopped to assist Escandon, one of whom sustained a minor injury to his elbow which was treated on scene by the East Brunswick Rescue Squad.
