Optimum Bringing $14M Fiber Network Upgrade To East Brunswick, South River

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Optimum will invest $14 million to bring its fastest internet speeds to East Brunswick and South River, the company said Tuesday. They will deploy a 100 percent fiber-to-the-home network across both communities for the first time.

The upgrade will give residents and businesses access to symmetrical fiber speeds of up to 8 Gbps, along with TV and phone services. Optimum Mobile is already available in both markets. The company expects to begin offering fiber internet service in East Brunswick and South River by early 2027.

Optimum said the speeds will rank among the fastest and most reliable in the state, along with the best gaming experience, citing accolades from Ookla Speedtest based on Q1-Q2 2026 data.

East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen welcomed the investment.

"Expanding access to high-speed fiber internet is vital for residents, schools, and businesses, ensuring everyone has the tools and technology to learn, work, and grow," Cohen said. "We look forward to seeing the positive impact this expansion will bring — connecting our neighborhoods and empowering our future."

Optimum currently serves nearly 300 communities across New Jersey, providing internet, mobile, TV and phone service to hundreds of thousands of customers.

The company said it also plans to support local schools and organizations in East Brunswick and South River through programs with groups such as DonorsChoose, FIRST and local Boys & Girls Clubs, and will participate in and sponsor community events as the buildout progresses.
