Prosecutor: 35-Year-Old Middlesex County Man Dies After Causing Injury To Himself, Going To Hospital

Saiseram Somwar was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

Police responded to an emergency call Friday in which an emotionally disturbed 35-year-old Middlesex County man who was believed to be causing injury to himself died after he was taken to a New Brunswick hospital, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey.

Saiseram Somwar of Ward Street in New Brunswick was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick at 8:17 p.m. after police and emergency workers attempted to revive him at his home, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The results of an autopsy being performed by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office were not immediately available.

Family members called police at 7:31 p.m. to report Somwar was in emotional distress. When police arrived, they found family members restraining Somwar on the floor. Police assisted the family until emergency workers arrived. Police and the emergency workers performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation when Somwar began showing symptoms of cardiac arrest.

He subsequently was rushed to the hospital, according to the MCPO.

The investigation, which is being conducted by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, has determined police acted properly during their response to the family emergency.
