Rutgers Police: Off-Campus Robbery, On-Campus Burglary Under Investigation

An armed robber held up a woman off-campus and someone burglarized a university-owned building in New Brunswick, Rutgers police said.

An armed robber held up a woman off-campus and someone burglarized a university-owned building in New Brunswick, according to an alert from Rutgers police.

In the first case, a woman, who is not affiliated with the university, told police she was near Prosper Street and Easton Avenue in the city around 10:50 p.m. Monday.

A man approached her and tried to grab her purse, but she resisted.

That’s when the robber showed a gun and “removed the victim’s property,’’ the alert said.

The victim was not injured and the robber got into a white vehicle - an SUV or a van -- and fled, heading down Easton Avenue toward Hamilton Street.

Police have a limited description of the thief.

New Brunswick police are handling the investigation and they ask that anyone with information call the detective bureau at 732-745-5217.

Around 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, someone entered Rutgers’ Records Hall, at 620 George St. through “an unsecured door and caused property damage,’’ the alert said.

The Rutgers University Police Department is handling that investigation, and it asks that anyone with information call its detective bureau at 848-932-8025.
