Many Roads In South Brunswick Now Impassable

Particularly bad is Rt. 1: Cars and trucks cannot make it up the hill on Rt. 1 at Major Road. Rt. 1 northbound may be closed.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick roads have become very, very bad, police announced around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, and many have actually become impassable due to the snow. In fact, South Brunswick Twp. declared a local state of emergency Thursday afternoon to deal with the snow, and they may close Rt. 1.

A state of emergency allows police to put additional parking restrictions in place, and call in extra help if needed.

Particularly bad is Rt. 1, police said: Numerous vehicles and trucks cannot make it up the hill on Rt. 1 at Major Road. Rt. 1 northbound may have to be closed until state plows can get through, Deputy Chief Jim Ryan told Patch. That's a crash above, near Rt. 32, Thursday afternoon.

The continued snowfall, high winds and ice-covered roads have made driving hazardous at this time. Officers are still responding to disabled vehicles and motor vehicles crashes throughout the township. Driving should be avoided at this time if possible. Please do not park your vehicle on any Township roads during the winter storm. Township ordinance prohibits vehicles parking on roadways during a snowstorm.
