6-Alarm South River Fire That Damaged Warehouse, Residences Under Probe: PD

An abandoned factory building, warehouse, residences and other properties were damaged in the 6-alarm fire, police confirmed.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – A massive six-alarm fire that destroyed several properties in South River is currently under investigation, officials said.

South River Police gave a full accounting of the destruction caused by the blaze. In addition to the abandoned factory building, there was fire damage to one warehouse, one office building, two vacant residences, one occupied residence, and miscellaneous property, police said.

On Tuesday night at 10:35 p.m., South River Police responded to the area of Herman Street and Water Street for a report of a structure fire. On arrival, police found an abandoned factory building on Herman Street fully engulfed in flames.

The six-alarm fire led to the response of Middlesex County Fire Marshals along with the South River Fire Department. Additionally, multiple other fire companies and EMS agencies responded with more than 26 engines, numerous truck companies, and over 100 firefighters.

Middlesex County Hazmat was on scene to monitor the air quality and for additional support as well.

The incident is considered an ongoing active investigation led by the Middlesex County Fire Marshalls Office with the assistance of South River Police Department Detectives.
