South River Schools Evacuated Friday Due to Suspicious Item
The item found at 11:10 a.m. evacuated the elementary and middle school.

South River, NJ - A suspicious item found outside the building evacuated the South River Elementary and Middle School Friday, according to South River Police Chief Mark Tinitigan.
However, a preliminary investigation concluded the item not to be a threat. The item was found at 11:10 a.m. Friday. As a precautionary measure, all students and staff were sheltered in place. In partnership with the Middlesex County Sheriff Department's Canine Unit, the South River Police Department conducted a comprehensive sweep of the building. No other suspicious items were found
At approximately 2:45 p.m., the Elementary & Middle School building was cleared and the shelter in place was lifted. Police did not say what that item was.
