Super Bowl Sunday: East Brunswick PD Remind Motorists To Drive Sober

Enjoy Super Bowl with friends and family. But don't get sidelined by DUI.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Welcome to Super Bowl Sunday! Whether you're eager up to watch the Kansa City Chiefs Vs. the Philadelphia Eagles, or are simply interested in Rihanna's half time show, Super Bowl is a time to gather with friends and family for a fun evening.

Many also take the opportunity to cheer for their favorite team with a night out or by attending a party. The East Brunswick Police Department is reminding fans that every Super Bowl party must kickoff with a game plan that prevents drunk driving.

"Stay in the game — if you know you’ll be drinking, plan for a safe ride home before you leave the house. Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk," the police department said on Facebook.

If your night involves alcohol outside your home, plan for a sober ride home. If you’re hosting a party, take care of your guests and ensure they have designated Drivers. If you're a designated driver, the police department has a few tips for you:

  • Take your role seriously — people are relying on you. If you’re attending a party, enjoy the food and nonalcoholic drinks. Refrain from any alcoholic beverages or other drugs.
  • Always buckle your seat belt and require any passengers to do the same. Don’t start the car until all passengers’ seat belts are buckled.
  • If someone you know has been drinking and tries to drive, take their keys and help them get home safely. Even if they make a fuss in the moment, they’ll thank you later.

  • If you are hosting a Super Bowl party, be sure all your guests have a sober ride home. Ask your guests to designate their sober drivers in advance.
  • Encourage your drinking guests to pace themselves, eat food, and drink plenty of water. Serve a selection of nonalcoholic drinks.
  • Do not serve alcohol to minors. If an underage person drinks and drives, the person who provided the alcohol can be held liable for any damage, injury, or death caused by the underage driver.
