EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Schools will close for a second straight day and makeup dates are already on the calendar as East Brunswick continues digging out from a historic blizzard that left roads hazardous and public works crews stretched across Middlesex County.

School Closures & Makeup Days

East Brunswick Public Schools will remain closed Tuesday. All after-school programs and evening activities have also been canceled.

To comply with New Jersey's state-mandated minimum instructional day requirements, the district announced it will add two makeup days to the academic calendar. Students will now be in session on Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31 — days that had previously been off.

The township took a direct hit from the nor'easter. Neighboring South River recorded 15.5 inches on Monday, according to National Weather Service spotters, offering the closest benchmark for East Brunswick's totals as official figures for the township were not yet available.

Across Middlesex County, snowfall ranged widely — from 15 inches in Plainsboro Township to a staggering 25 inches in Perth Amboy.

  • Woodbridge — 17.0 in.
  • South River — 15.5 in.
  • Plainsboro Township — 15.0 in.
  • South Plainfield — 15.0 in.
