Two Presumptive Positive Coronavirus Cases In Middlesex County

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — The coronavirus has arrived in Middlesex County: There are now two presumptive positive cases of coronavirus cases in Middlesex County, New Jersey Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli announced Wednesday afternoon.
She did not say where in Middlesex County the two individuals are. These are the first two cases in Middlesex County to date. East Brunswick officials later identified a resident as having the virus.

Persichilli announced eight new cases on Wednesday, bringing the statewide total up to 23. Two of the new cases are not linked to other patients or areas where corornavirus is prevalent.

As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, the state total of coronavirus cases in New Jersey is now 23, with one fatality so far. The residents who have the virus range in ages from 17 to 66 and they are either hospitalized or quarantining at home, said officials.
The man who died of the disease was 69 and had underlying conditions, including diabetes, hypertension and emphysema. He was not named by health officials.
The man is a Little Ferry resident and he was in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center where he died. The man had a fever and cough, and visited his primary care physician a week ago. He was given antibiotics, but his condition didn't improve. He was admitted Friday to Hackensack University Medical Center.
He was isolated, and his condition deteriorated Monday night, and he went into cardiac arrest. He was revived but then went into cardiac arrest Tuesday morning and died, officials said.
