300+ Layoffs Coming To Morris County Pharma Company
Employees will start being let go before the end of the summer, according to the WARN report.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — More than 300 employees will be laid off from a Morris County pharmaceutical company, according to a recent report of Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications (WARN).
This month, WARNs were announced from Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation in East Hanover.
The pharmaceutical company, headquartered in Switzerland, plans to lay off 322 employees from its East Hanover facility by Oct. 2, according to the WARN notice.

These 322 layoffs come after the East Hanover facility announced 114 layoffs in March, 60 layoffs in April, and 76 layoffs in May.
The WARN report did not specify which positions within East Hanover's Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation would be downsized.

In New Jersey, Novartis has a major presence with offices and research operations in East Hanover and other locations, employing thousands of people in research and development, clinical trials, manufacturing support, and corporate functions.
The company is one of the world's largest pharmaceutical manufacturers, with its products sold in more than 150 countries. Its business focuses on developing patented prescription medicines rather than consumer health products or generic drugs.
The latest round of layoff notices comes after a string of dismissals, store closures, and bank branch shutdowns.
New Jersey's unemployment rate sits at 4.7 percent, according to the latest available data. The national unemployment rate is at 4.2 percent.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN, requires employers with 100 or more employees to provide 60 days’ advance written notice of plant closings or mass layoffs.
