Tayjus Surampudi receives the Robert L. Birkhahn Community Spirit Scholarship

Hillsborough, NJ (August 19, 2014) – Every year, Affinity Federal Credit Union awards scholarships to its student members based on their outstanding contributions to the community. On Friday, August 1, 2014, Affinity Federal Credit Union presented the Robert L. Birkhahn Community Spirit Scholarship to Tayjus Surampudi at Affinity Federal Credit Union’s Hillsborough Branch.
Tayjus Surampudi graduated from Hillsborough High School this past June with a 103.7 GPA and will be attending Harvard University in the Fall. In addition to participating in the Model UN, Model Congress and Boys State, he is a published author and an active advocate for disabled individuals. He has travelled to Washington DC to meet with legislators about the reauthorization of the Muscular Dystrophy Care Act, and served as a member of both the Transition panel and the Independence panel for the 2013 Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy Annual Conference. In his application, Tayjus wrote “I was an example of how the MD Care Act has benefited those with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I helped put a face to a cause.”
“We are very happy that Tayjus Surampudi is one of three recipients of the Robert L. Birkhahn Community Scholarship,” said Lauretta Farrell, AVP External Affairs, Executive Director, AFCU Foundation. “His work in the field of Muscular Dystrophy is remarkable and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes while at Harvard.”
