On Friday, April 26, 2013, Seton Hall University School of Law honored Wilson Elser Partner James Crawford Orr with its Distinguished Graduate Award at its Annual Alumni Dinner Dance. Mr. Orr graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1964.
A truly distinguished graduate, Mr. Orr also earned his Bachelor of Arts from Seton Hall University, and in fact earned the first-ever Seton Hall University Brownson Debate Scholarship for his excellence in debate in high school. He went on to lead the university’s debate team to qualify for the National Debate Tournament for the first time in the school’s history. While in law school, he coached the debate team back to nationals.
Mr. Orr continued on this road to excellence, spending 29 years as the regional managing partner of Wilson Elser’s New Jersey office, which he opened in Newark in 1983. Wilson Elser was the first out-of-state national law firm to open an office in New Jersey.

With a long illustrious career, Mr. Orr has earned numerous accolades including Trial Attorney of the Year, inclusion in New Jersey Super Lawyers and the Martindale-Hubbell AV Preeminent Rating. He has served as a delegate to the American Bar Association, president of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Board of Trial Attorneys and president of the Essex County Bar Association.
He also serves on the board of trustees of the Essex County Bar Foundation and is a founding member of the Seton Hall Law’s board of visitors.

In 2008, Mr. Orr and his wife Sharon created the “James and Sharon Orr Endowed Law Scholarship” to be awarded each year to a promising law student with a demonstrated financial need.
