Morris Co. Drunken Driver Claimed To Be Cop, Real Police Say

The woman later pivoted, saying she was a corrections officer, police said.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Somerset County woman is facing several charges after she was not only caught driving drunk, but caught in a lie about her employment with law enforcement, police said.

On March 16, Hanover police noticed a driver on Route 10 driving “erratically and violating multiple traffic laws,” authorities said.

The driver ignored the police car’s emergency lights and sirens behind her until she finally came to a stop at a red light at Troy Hills Road, police said. Several other patrol cars blocked her in, so she couldn’t continue forward, authorities added.

The driver, Pamela Currie, 53, of Franklin Park, displayed “many indicators of intoxication” as she spoke with police, according to officials.

Eventually, she began shouting at police that she was a “cop,” before pivoting to a “corrections officer,” police said.

Following a series of field sobriety tests, Currie was arrested on a DWI and taken to police headquarters, where she refused a breathalyzer test, officials added.

Currie was charged with DWI, refusal to provide breath samples, open container of an alcoholic beverage, impersonating a law enforcement officer, and several traffic offenses. She was released to a responsible driver and given a court summons.
