Book Signing and Art Event at The Messy Artist

Local children’s book author Alidis Vicente will be bringing her hot-off-the-presses book Violet to The Messy Artist on Wednesday February 18 for a book signing and art event. Following the reading and book signing, The Messy Artist staff will lead the students in an art project inspired by the book. Each family attending will bring home a signed copy of Violet with their art projects. Pre-registration is required.

Ms Vicente brought her previous book to The Messy Artist for a book and art event, and is thrilled to return with her recent publication. “It was such fun to see the art work kids created after reading the story that I knew I had to do it again for Violet.”

Violet is a brightly illustrated book, telling the tale of a young bird of the same name. Violet is the only Purple-Footed Booby, living on the Galapagos Islands with her parents. Her unique appearance creates dissension between the Blue-Footed Boobies of her father’s side and the Red-Footed Boobies of her mother’s side. Violet’s path to acceptance is an entertaining and thoughtful story of learning to see and embrace similarities rather than differences.

The format of this event is similar to The Messy Artist’s popular Storybook Art class, where each week K – 1st grade students read a children’s book and then create an art project inspired by it. Children learn new art techniques and discover how stories be a springboard for art.

The Messy Artist is a special place to create art, offering offer year-round art classes for children 18 months through 8th grade. In addition to art classes from September through June, they offer summer art camp and Drop-In and Play art activities for kids between regular sessions. The bright, colorful studio is also the perfect place for a kid’s birthday party.
