East Hanover, Florham Park Students Awarded National Merit Scholarships

Congratulations Monica Chen and Ray Lozano!

EAST HANOVER, NJ — A Florham Park and an East Hanover resident were awarded National Merit Scholarships. Monica Chen, from East Hanover, and Ray Lozano, from Florham Park, were awarded the scholarship for outstanding academic potential.

They are part of the first round of winners in the 62nd annual national Merit Scholarship Program, which awards corporate and foundation sponsored scholarships to over 1,000 high school students.

Chen, a student at Hanover Park High School, intends to pursue a career in finance. Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A sponsored Chen-Liaw's award, which is available to children of Formosa employees.

Lozano, a student at Seaton Hall Preparatory School, plans to pursue a career in education. Automatic Data Processing, Inc. sponsored Lozano’s award, which is available to children of ADP employees.

To be considered for a scholarship, students had to complete a detailed application, which included an essay, information about extracurricular activities, a school official recommendation and high SAT scores.
