East Hanover Police Increasing School Security

The increase is in response to Wednesday's deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

EAST HANOVER, NJ — Following Wednesday's deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida, East Hanover Police are increasing their presence at township schools.

The measure is precautionary, and there is no threat to East Hanover Schools. Officers will be present at the start and the end of the school day, police said on Facebook.

"There are NO threats at this time, this is just to reassure all students, faculty and parents. This will remain in effect until further notice," police said.

Anyone with questions or concerns is asked to call the police department, they added.

Seventeen people were killed and numerous others were injured when a former student opened fire at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Wednesday. The alleged shooter, Nikolas Cruz, 19, was taken into custody shortly after the killing spree began just before the end of the school day.

East Hanover is not the only New Jersey school district to increase security in response. Howell Township Police announced Wednesday night they will be ramping up police presence as a precautionary measure.
