Florham Park Cub Scout Pack #2 will be working with the Navy for Moms 2013 Holiday Project to send much-needed items to U.S. troops deployed overseas this holiday season. The Cub Scouts will be holding a Collection Drive during October. They are reaching out to the local community to help Navy for Moms reach a national goal of sending 8,000 care packages to our brave sailors and marines.
Collection bins will be located in the Florham Park Library, the Florham Park Senior Center, and in Briarwood and Brooklake Schools from October 7 to October 28.
The Navy for Moms Holiday Project started in 2009, when the USS Nimitz’s deployment extension kept sailors away from their family and friends during the holidays. The mothers of the sailors organized a collection drive and were able to send 7,500 care packages that year. The ships chosen to receive the care packages for 2013 are the USS Truman and the USS Boxer, which has Florham Park resident Thomas Dwyer on board.
