Former Florham Park Accountant Admits Forging $125K Company Check

East Orange man faces up to three years in prison and repayment of funds received, prosecutor says.

An East Orange man who formerly worked as an accountant for Kushner Company in Florham Park pled guilty this week to forging a company check and cashing it for $125,000, Morris Count Prosecutor Fredric Knapp announced.

Lepolian McConnell, 34, pled guilty to one count of theft by deception and attempted theft by deception, Knapp said.

McConnell was charged in May for issuing a Kushner Company check in the amount of $125,000 made payable to a construction vendor who was authorized to receive payments, Knapp said. The check was forged with signatures appearing to be that of the Chief Financial Officer and Controller of the company, where McConnell was a staff accountant.

The check was then cashed at Jersey City Check Cashing in Jersey City, New Jersey.

McConnell’s sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 9 and faces up to three years in prison as well as full restitution to the company.
