Free Dementia Care, Memory Loss Presentation Set In East Hanover

EAST HANOVER, NJ — East Hanover and Roseland residents looking for guidance on memory changes and dementia care can attend a free presentation next week, but advance registration is required.

“Understanding Memory Loss and Dementia” will run from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, September 15, at the East Hanover Senior Center, 96 Mount Pleasant Avenue, according to a township announcement and official flyer.

The program will feature Alzheimer’s New Jersey and the GUIDE Program, short for Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience.

Alzheimer’s New Jersey will explain how normal age-related memory changes differ from changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. The presentation will also cover diagnostic evaluations, current treatments and research into healthy aging.

The GUIDE Program, available to Medicare participants, provides coordinated care and support at “no additional cost” for people living with dementia and their unpaid caregivers. Benefits may include a dedicated care coordinator, a “24/7 support line,” support groups, educational resources, respite care and help locating local services.

The session is limited to East Hanover and Roseland residents and is available by RSVP only. A representative at the East Hanover Health Department confirmed to Patch on Wednesday that the program is not full and registration remains available.

The event aims to help families recognize warning signs and find support.
