Genocide Studies "Gallery Walk" Open to the Public at Whippany Park on May 19th

Genocide Studies classes prepare to welcome community members to their informative "gallery walk" for fourth year.

The Hanover Park Regional High School District is pleased to announce this year’s gallery walk presented by the Genocide Studies classes under the direction of social studies teacher Mr. Brady Mahar. The gallery walk, which evolved out of the Genocide Studies curriculum as a service learning capstone of the course, is designed to provide students and community members with a hands-on, authentic learning experience that is creative and powerful. The gallery walk is in its fourth year; this year’s theme is “Never Again?”

During the gallery walk’s unique immersive experience, the audience begins by entering the building under a replica of the Auschwitz “Arbeit macht frei” gate, weaves in and out of various creative spaces within the school dedicated to several tragic genocides, and ends in the theater with a closing performance. Past participants have described the walk as “inspiring and eye-opening,” allowing students and community members to learn more about the varied culture, religion, and history of targeted groups.

The gallery walk will be open to the public on May 19, 2015 from 4-6pm at Whippany Park High School. All community members are invited to attend and share in this unique and enlightening learning experience designed and presented by the students of the Hanover Park Regional High School District.
