Phony Money Purchase Denied at Best Buy

Three individuals fled the East Hanover store after being confronted.

Three individuals fled a Route 10 store after their attempt to make a purchase with counterfeit $100 bills was denied last week, East Hanover Police said.

According to police, two black males and a black female tried to make a purchase at Best Buy on Sept. 11 at about 7 p.m.

The cashier, however, detected the bills had a different feel and they had the picture of Abraham Lincoln on them instead of Benjamin Franklin, police said.

The store employee asked the three individuals about the $100 bills. One man told the cashier that he was going to call his bank to find out the issue, police said.

The three individuals left the store and drove off in a silver Land Rover. A search for the vehicle was unsuccessful.
