Resident Receives Achievement Award
Florham Park resident Laura Callahan receives achievement award from area non-profit

Over 200 guests joined Employment Horizons in celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month at the nonprofit organization’s Annual Recognition Dinner. The event, held at the Hanover Marriott, recognizes corporations and individuals who have made significant contributions to the agency’s mission to provide job training and placement services to people with disabilities and empower people with special needs to fulfill their vocational goals. Also among those honored were two Employment Horizons clients who have achieved significant success in community-based employment.
Catherine Syfor, recipient of the President’s Award, has been with Employment Horizons for over fifteen years. She works on site in the fulfillment center two days a week and has successfully maintained part-time employment with Shop Rite in Dover for fourteen years. Cathy, or “Catmeister” as her co-workers call her, excels at assisting customers and many seek her out just to say hello. Laura Callahan, recipient of the William Huber Achievement Award, has been employed as a bakery assistant at King’s Supermarket in Chatham since 1998. She has a very strong work ethic and capably handles many aspects of the bakery, from cake decorating to stocking items. She has been named employee of the month numerous times and the biggest challenge she is facing at work is stopping long enough for a break!
Honorees also included Joseph Forgione, JMF Properties, Make a Difference Award; Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church, Helping Hands Award; ISI North America, Inc., Contractor of the Year; and Knights of Columbus Council #2086, Chatham, Community Service Award. Proceeds from the event help defray the cost of providing comprehensive employment, training and job placement services to persons with disabilities and other disadvantages in the greater Morris County, NJ area.
