Comment of the Week: The Politically Minded Amy Mills!

Last week was an unusually political one for comments here on East Windsor Patch. A from Hightstown Borough Council Republican candidates John Archer and Skye Gilmartin drew several comments, as did their previously announced .

This team just ruined my Father's Day with a robo call asking me a question about whether I think designation as a "Sanctuary" should be changed. Whatever the issue, this left me with a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach that says adults in this town can't think of how to change things in a way that 1) shows compassion for fellow human beings, and 2) doesn't set a bad example for the youth of our town. The petty squabbling that is non-results oriented has become characteristic, and signals to our youth that this is the way to make our town a better place to live--not! Making change is never easy--God forbid someone try to do this with some positive ideas that are not rooted in the hint of xenophobia. That person would probably meet the same brick wall.

Amy’s wasn’t the only comment on Archer and Gilmartin’s announcement, and it didn’t represent the only side. We also particularly appreciated this comment, which came in response to several others on :

Why is it that if you are for sanctuary term you are ok and no one calls you names, but if you have an opinion against it you are called all kinds of nasty names? I think being able to voice your opinion is what America is about. Having the public have input is a good thing, isn't it? Instead of calling people Nazis for wanting laws enforced let the public speak. Is it such a bad thing to want people to have correct paper work so we know it's not someone hiding out from charges in another country? Or to at least know who is who.

We have to wonder if Dave is familiar with Godwin’s Law, the Internet adage that says, essentially, that the first person to mention the Nazis in their argument automatically loses.

Great article. I'm always interested to see and hear about how parents address the issues of computer usage for their kids. One of the best tools that can be used on a computer is the Content Advisor option under Internet Options. The option allows you to set which websites you want that computer to access, set supervisor passwords, restrict specific sites, etc. You can even import Website Ratings to make sure that your kids are not wandering into sites that may be "inappropriate".

I'm with you, Lisa! The summer time, when school is over or about to be is a time for kids to unwind and leave behind the routine of the school year. Enjoy the whimsy of catching fireflies, running through sprinklers and the special family time, making memories of a lifetime!

I agree. We push bedtimes back in the summer. Plus, it's awfully hard for kids to go to bed at 8 in the summer, when it's still light outside! I remember listening to kids playing outside in the summer when I was a kid and I had an early bedtime.

One plus side to the later bedtime is later wake ups in the morning. It's amazing what can get done while the little ones sleep!
