East Windsor School District Seeks Teachers To Fill Staff Vacancies

The school district is looking to hire educators to fill the positions amid a national teacher shortage.

EAST WINDSOR, NJ — Amid a national teacher shortage, the East Windsor Schools is looking to fill vacancies in the district.

Open positions at the school district include middle school math teacher, Spanish teacher, high school chemistry teacher, ESL teacher and social studies teacher.

The teacher shortage is not unique to East Windsor alone. Many school districts in NJ are hiring retired teachers and some are even offering high singing bonuses to attract eligible candidates.

To increase the pool of teachers, higher education institutions like Lawrenceville-based Rider University are offering scholarships for incoming first year and transfer undergraduate education majors. More: Amid Teacher Shortage Rider U. Offers Scholarship For Education Majors

The teacher shortage is a nationwide issue with roughly 300,000 educators leaving their jobs between Feb. 2020 and May 2022, according to August 2022 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, reported by the Wall Street Journal.

On Feb. 15, the U.S. Department of Education announced first-ever awards, totaling over $18 million, to increase high-quality teacher preparation programs for teachers of color, to strengthen the diversity and address teacher shortages.
