East Windsor Woman Killed In 1-Car Crash Had 'Beautiful Soul'

Irma Lopez was a freshman at Rider University.

WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — Irma Lopez had a beautiful soul and a bright future. The 18-year-old East Windsor woman was a freshman at Rider University, after enrolling in the school in September.

Over the weekend, though, her life was tragically cut short. Lopez has been identified as the victim in a single-car crash that occurred on Route 571 in West Windsor Sunday morning.

“We will never be the same without her, but we will go on to remember the joy you gave this world on your short stay,” the organizers of the Irma Lopez GoFundMe Page wrote. “On this day we remember how short life is, how much we take for granted with shattered hearts.”

Lopez was killed when she lost control of her 2006 Toyota Scion while traveling west on Princeton-Hightstown Road (Route 571) at about 8 a.m. Sunday, according to the West Windsor Police Department.

Lopez, who was the only person in the car, apparently lost control when she reached a curved section of the road just past the Southfield Center.

The car spun out of control, left the road and struck a tree, police said. The car was split into two pieces. Lopez was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said the road was wet at the time of the crash, but they also believe Lopez was speeding when she lost control of her car.

Route 571 was closed in both directions between Rabbit Hill and Southfield for about three hours. The accident is being investigated by the West Windsor Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

Anyone who may have seen this accident or has information is asked to contact West Windsor Ptl. Brown at 609-799-1222 or Brown@westwindsorpolice.com.

The organizers of the GoFundMe page are asking for help for those she left behind.

“We ask for all who knew Irma to help us help her family in these hard times,” according to the page. “All money will go to her mother, father and brother to help cover expenses.”

As of Tuesday, the page had raised just over $3,000 toward its $10,000 goal. To make a donation, click here.
