Hightstown Girls Soccer on a Winning Streak

After losing opener, Rams improve to 3-1.

After dropping its season opener to Robbinsville, the girls soccer team has been on a bit of a winning streak.

With its 3-2 win over Ewing Thursday, Hightstown improved to 3-1.

"We're getting a lot of scoring from a lot of different players, which is a good thing," said Hightstown Coach Don Hess. "This group is also really focused on soccer, which is very important."

"That was a really good win for us," Hess noted. "Princeton is an excellent team. They were undefeated and hadn't given up a goal all season."

Erin Sobkowiak made five saves to record the shutout for Hightstown.

In its 1-0 win over Hamilton on Sept. 15, Lisa Jerry made five saves in goal to record the shutout.

"We have two goalies that split time," Hess said. "They both play because they are excellent goalies."

Lopez, assisted by Alexander, scored the lone goal of the match against Hamilton.

"It's great to get off to this kind of a start because we are a young team," Hess said. "We start two freshmen. We're just fortunate to have some really great senior leadership from our captains Erin Sobkowiak, Kate Douglass and Delaney Kelly."

Hightstown will be looking to improve to 4-1 when it hosts Steinert on Saturday at 1 p.m. Hightstown will host Lawrence on Monday in a 6:30 p.m. start.

"We're off to one of the best starts we've had in years," Hess said. "We'd like to continue that this week. We have some big games coming up."
