Hightstown High School to Defend Consumer Bowl Title March 11

The event is at the Stone Terrace in Hamilton.

Students from Hightstown High School will defend their title against seven Mercer County high schools in the 20th annual NJ High School Consumer Bowl on Friday, March 11, at 9 a.m. at the Stone Terrace, 2275 Kuser Road, Hamilton. Snow date is March 18.

Challengers inclide: Ewing High School, Hamilton High School West, Nottingham High School, Steinert High School, Trenton High School and West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North. The winner of the Mercer County title will move on to the Central Jersey Regional Consumer Bowl.

The Consumer Bowl features a game-show format to test students’ knowledge of the NJ Consumer Fraud Act, consumer rights and responsibilities such as the purchase of new and used vehicles, investment schemes, home improvement fraud, credit protection, and general knowledge of consumer protection laws and regulations.

“This is a great opportunity for students to learn things they can use to become smarter consumers,” Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes said. “Information is your best defense against consumer fraud.”

Anthony Brennan, New Jersey Consumer Affairs investigator and Union County TV personality, will serve as moderator for the Mercer County competition. Mercer County Consumer Affairs Chief Donna Giovannetti will serve as referee.

Judges will include Assistant Prosecutor Rachel Cook, County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello, retired Investigator Joanne Frank, County Surrogate Diane Gerofsky, Assistant County Counsel John Maloney and Mercer County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jason Salvatore.

Retired Detective Michele Russell will serve as scorekeeper and Mercer County Weights and Measures Superintendent John Worth will serve as timekeeper.
