Hightstown High School Educator To Visit D.C. As A C-SPAN Fellow

William Kamps will visit D.C. after being selected to participate in the program this summer.

HIGHTSTOWN, NJ — An educator at Hightstown High School has been named one of three recipients of C-SPAN’s 2017 Teacher Fellowship Program, the cable news network announced on Wednesday. William Kamps teaches U.S. History II and a senior Humanities Seminar, as well as two elective courses: one on Genocide and another on the Presidential Election. He also co-advises the PGC Peer Leadership Program and Student Council at Hightstown High School.

As a Fellow, Kamps will spend four weeks during the summer developing new educational resources with C-SPAN's Education Relations team for C-SPAN Classroom.

C-SPAN Classroom is the network’s free membership service that works with C-SPAN's programs on public affairs, coverage of Congress, non-fiction books and American history to create free resources for teachers, students and the public to use in classrooms, projects or for research.

He will also receive a $7,000 award that includes money for housing and travel expenses.

The program invites teachers nationwide to apply for an opportunity to collaborate with the network in their Washington, D.C. headquarters. Participants are selected by a panel of C-SPAN representatives and evaluated based on their innovative use of C-SPAN programming in their curriculum, dedication to learning new technologies, and commitment to professional development.

"Every summer C-SPAN looks forward to collaborating with current teachers as part of our Fellowship Program,” C-SPAN Manager of Education Relations Craig McAndrew said. “Their subject matter expertise offers fresh new ideas and helps generate content for teachers around the country."

The Fellowship Program is sponsored by C-SPAN's Education Foundation. C-SPAN is funded by America’s cable television companies, which support C-SPAN Classroom. In Hightstown, C-SPAN is available locally through Comcast.

"Comcast is a proud supporter of C-SPAN and their educational initiatives, including the Teacher Fellowship program,” Comcast Director of Governmental Affairs Robert Clifton said. “We congratulate William Kamps from Hightstown High School on being one of three teachers chosen nationwide to spend the summer in Washington, D.C. collaborating on new educational resources. Education is important to Comcast and we applaud C-SPAN as they continue to offer these opportunities to teachers around the country."
