Hightstown Library Association Donates E-Readers to Borough's Memorial Library

The Hightstown Library Association has provided five e-book readers to the for demonstration and training for library staff and patrons in celebration of the library's 90th birthday on July 16.

The e-book readers to be provided are the Apple iPad2, the Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device 9.7" Display, the Kindle Wireless Reading Device 6" Display, the NOOK Color, and the Sony Reader Daily Edition PRS-9505C.

With the shift to digital libraries, more and more people are using the internet to gather, retrieve, and send data. The Hightstown Memorial Library has twelve public desktop computers plus ten laptop computers for instruction. These computers were partially funded by community donations to the Hightstown Library Association.

E-books are presently offered by the Mercer County Library System through ListenNJ. Go to www.mcl.org and click on the ListenNJ icon for free e-book and audio book downloads. You can set up a digital account using your Mercer County Library card number.

For further help meeting the e-resource needs of our community, the branch will use e-book readers for librarian and patron familiarization, demonstration and training. The new e-book readers can provide hands-on experience for patrons wishing to purchase e-book readers.

Look this fall for introductory classes in the use of this new technology, as the Hightstown Memorial Branch of the Mercer County Library System celebrates 90 years of service to the community in 2011.
