Knock Out Opiate Abuse Town Hall In East Windsor This Fall

EAST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey continues its Knock Out Opioid Abuse Town Hall series in East Windsor Township in September. The town hall will take place at East Windsor Senior Center, 40 Lanning Boulevard, on Monday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Organized with the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, the town hall series focuses on the issue of prescription drug dependency and heroin abuse. It includes collaboration from hundreds of local prevention and treatment organizations, as well as local and county law enforcement, government and medical community leaders.

The Mercer County Town Hall is co-sponsored by the East Windsor Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse, the Prevention Coalition of Mercer County, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the Mercer Council on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction.

In 2015, more than 33,000 Americans died from an opioid overdose, an average of about 91 deaths per day, according to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“All residents of New Jersey are encouraged to join the conversation and participate in their local Knock Out Opioid Abuse Town Hall to understand the disease of addiction, develop strategies to help protect their families and identify resources to address individuals who have become dependent on prescription drugs or are abusing heroin,” Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey Executive Director Angelo Valente said.
