EAST WINDSOR, NJ – Back in August, we told you how members of the Boy Scout Troop 5700 of Hightstown - East Windsor helped save a man’s life while they were on a week-long sailboat trip in the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland.

Recently, East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov issued a proclamation recognizing and commending the troop for their actions.

“The Township is proud of Boy Scout Troop 5700 members Cash Colleton, Jack Conner, Adam Lewandowski and Connor Suk as well as scoutmaster Bruce Kramer for their pro-active and skillful actions which resulted in the rescue of this person,” Mironov said.

During a sailboat trip, the boys received a message over the radio from the Coast Guard, advising all the boats in the water that there was an “individual in distress.”

The boys immediately got into action, setting their eyes all around. Soon they spotted something “shining in the distance” which was a disabled jet ski.

The troop also found a backpack floating in the water and relayed the message to the Coast Guard. Soon the Coast Guard and Maryland Police arrived, and they found the person 200 yards away from where the Scouts were.

“Emergency Preparedness is an essential lesson every Scout learns and the fast-acting Scouts reacted quickly and calmly in a real-life emergency situation,” Mironov said.

“On behalf of the Township Council and the entire community, we want to commend these Scouts for their outstanding positive actions.”
