The annual National Night Out helps increase vigilance against crime by encouraging police and residents to get to know each other, and for people to leave their porch lights on to meet their neighbors and take a stand against crime.
The National Night Out website states that the annual event "enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances."
