Princeton Area Community Foundation Awards Over $84,000 in Scholarships for Students
This included 13 high school seniors who shared in $38,400 worth of scholarships.

The Princeton Area Community Foundation has awarded a total of $84,660 to students for the 2016-17 school year, including $38,400 for 13 high schools seniors heading off to college this fall, the foundation announced.
It also renewed $46,260 worth of scholarships for 14 college students who excelled in their studies and will return to classes in September. The scholarships were made possible by generous people who established scholarship funds at the Community Foundation.
“These students represent the best of our region’s young people,” Community Foundation President and CEO Jeffrey M. Vega said. “We want to congratulate them for their achievements in high school and wish them success as they begin their college careers.”

The scholarship recipients attend high schools in the Trenton, Hamilton, Princeton, West Windsor-Plainsboro, Point Pleasant Borough, Voorhees, North Hunterdon, Cranford, and Collingswood districts, and participate in a wide variety of activities, including community service, athletic teams, student government and after-school clubs.
“We want to ensure that our region’s talented students have every opportunity to receive the education they deserve,’’ Community Foundation Board of Trustees Chair Carol P. Herring said. “We also want to thank our generous residents who have created scholarship funds at the Community Foundation to help deserving young people attend college.”

The following is a list of scholarships, this year’s recipients, their high schools and the colleges they plan to attend:
Trenton Central High School
Lion Woodward Educational Fund / Rotary Club of Trenton, 4-year award, $2,500 per year, awarded to a high school senior from Mercer or Bucks Counties, who demonstrates academic achievement, exemplary community service, and leadership.
· Qureasia Troupe-Mekins, The College of New Jersey
Hamilton School District
Mary Elliott Wislar Memorial Scholarship Fund, 2-year award, $6,000 per year; awarded to a Mercer County high school senior who has exhibited leadership.
· Danielle Barbara Swierczyna, Steinert High School, SUNY Oneonta
John R. and Shirley I. Forrest Memorial Scholarship, 4-year award, $5,000 per year; awarded to a Hamilton High School West senior based on community service, achievement and character.
· Jose Moran, Mercer County Community College
Princeton High School
Greater Mercer Scholarship Fund, 1-year award, $2,000; awarded to a Mercer County High School senior who hasdemonstrated a strong commitment to community service over several years; made possible by The Frank Clark Memorial Fund and the Bethany Scholarship Fund.
· Edgar Morales, University of Pittsburgh
Lion Woodward Educational Fund / Rotary Club of Trenton, 4-year award, $2,500 per year, awarded to a high school senior from Mercer or Bucks Counties, who demonstrates academic achievement, exemplary community service, and leadership.
· Cheyenne Setneska, Stockton University
West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South
Princeton Post No. 76, American Legion Dr. Henry J. Frank Scholarship, 4-year award, $1,000 per year; awarded to a Princeton, West Windsor Township or Plainsboro high school senior who is a descendant of a person who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
· Rachel Julius, University of Maryland
· Kathryn Schoenauer, University of Pennsylvania
Point Pleasant Borough High School
Sandra M. Glazier Memorial Scholarship Fund, 4-year award, $5,000 per year; awarded to an Ocean or Monmouth County high school senior with a parent who has been or is afflicted with cancer, or who is battling cancer him or herself.
· Abigail Byington, Pace University
Voorhees High School
Frank, Ada, and Elizabeth Compton Scholarship, 1-year award, $4,450, awarded to students who build social capital within their school and/or between their school and community.
· Sarah Malzberg, Georgetown University
North Hunterdon High School
Frank, Ada, and Elizabeth Compton Scholarship, 1-year award, $4,450, awarded to students who build social capital within their school and/or between their school and community.
· Sarah Kim, Lehigh University
Cranford High School
Macklin Soccer Scholarship, 1-year award, $1,000; awarded in honor of Paul Brown and William R. Ray for their dedication to the students in the varsity soccer program at Cranford High School.
· Jakub Iwaniuk, St. John’s University
Macklin World Language Scholarship 1-year award, $1,000; awarded in honor of Donato Zoppi, who taught World Language at Cranford Public Schools for 30 years.
· Caroline Elmer, Purchase College – State University of New York
Collingswood High School
Michael McGarry Skowronek Scholarship, 2-year award, $2,500 per year, awarded to a Collingswood High School senior based on achievement and character.
· Emma Oehlers, University of the Arts in Philadelphia
