Cedar Hill Prep Students Head to Internationals After 2nd Place Finish at Future Problem Solving Competition

Somerset, NJ — March 24, 2026 — Cedar Hill Preparatory School (CHP) is proud to announce that its House Leadership Team earned 2nd place at the Future Problem Solving New Jersey (FPSNJ) Community Project Competition, advancing to the International Competition at Indiana University this June.

Competing against 22 teams from across the state, CHP's House Leadership Team — Nico Garofalo, Lily Trotta, Samaira Doshi, Sahasra Genupur, Avya Kumar, Aanya Vig, Shivad Desai, and Alex Peng — presented their year-long community service initiative in partnership with Pine Grove Manor. The project demonstrated how students applied the six-step Future Problem Solving process to identify challenges, develop solutions, and create meaningful, real-world change within their community.

"This achievement goes far beyond a competition. This project helped our students understand that leadership, empathy, and service can create real change in the lives of others," said Sangeeta Lekhi, Grade 7 & 8 Math Teacher and the team's Project Coach at Cedar Hill Preparatory School.

Future Problem Solving (FPS) is an international program that engages students in critical thinking and creative problem solving through curriculum-based challenges. The Community Project component challenges student teams to identify a problem in their local community and implement a measurable solution over the course of the academic year.

CHP's House Leadership Team will represent New Jersey on the international stage at Indiana University in June 2026.
