It was the first rabid animal reported in the county in 2018.

MONROE, NJ — A rabid raccoon was killed by a family dog in Monroe Township, the Middlesex County Office of Health Services said.

The raccoon was killed on Monday in the area of Spotswood Gravel Hill Road and Garvey Drive, officials said. Test results came back positive for rabies the next day; it was the first rabid animal reported in Middlesex County in 2018.

The dog was up to date on its rabies vaccinations, and its owners were advised to follow up with their veterinarian, officials said. No humans were exposed to the raccoon.
