The township awarded the contract to Shoreland Constructions at a meeting held last week.
EDISON, NJ — The township recently awarded a contract of over $5 million for the expansion and renovation of the Toth Health Center.
During the last meeting, Council adopted a resolution awarding $5,290,850 in contract to Shoreland Constructions of Monmouth Beach.
The township received three bids for the project – Belmont Construction submitted a base bid of $3.5 million and an alternate bid of $4 million; Shoreland Construction put in a base bid of $5.2 million and an alternate base bid of $5.3 million; and the final bid was from S Houran USA Contractors who submitted a base bid of $3.8 million and an alternate bid of $4 million.

Later, S Houran requested to withdraw the bid due to an error in calculation. Belmont Construction too reported a clerical error in its submission - the new base bid was $6.8 million and alternate bid was $7 million.
Councilwoman Joyce Ship-Freeman abstained from voting, saying she wanted more information on the project timeline.

“I love that we are going to have an expansion,” Ship-Freeman said. “I want to make sure we get services, so when we do add this senior building, we do hit the ground running.”
Last year, Edison received $3 for renovating and expanding the Toth Center. The funds came from President Joe Biden’s federal spending bill.
The funding will help expand the Center by nearly 3,000 square feet.
The new space also includes a meeting room for events and activities, a reading room, a full kitchen, and a common lounge. The township will also be able to expand its vaccinations, health screenings, and other essential services to older residents.
