EDISON, NJ — First on Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy announced he is closing all state and county parks in New Jersey, due to the fact that groups of people keep congregating there.

And then the township of Edison also announced Tuesday they will also be closing every park in town for the remainder of this pandemic.

Edison Township Mayor Thomas Lankey announced that every park in Edison will be closed effective tomorrow, Wednesday, April 8 at sunrise. Murphy's order closed all state and county parks to further social distancing, but left municipal parks to the discretion of each town.

“Fight this awful virus and flatten the curve to get back to some sense of normalcy," said Mayor Lankey. "We will be closing every park in Edison beginning tomorrow morning to try and increase the positive benefits on display from aggressively social distancing.”

"Our emergency responders are already stretched thin answering the call to protect our community in the midst of this pandemic, so I am asking everyone to respect the fact that these parks will be closed until further notice," said Mayor Lankey. "There will be no exceptions, every park will be closed for every person."
