Edison Set To Hear Lidl Grocery Store Application Monday

The application which has faced opposition from residents will be discussed by Planning Board on Nov. 15.

EDISON, NJ — The Planning Board is expected to continue hearing the application of Lidl grocery store on Monday, Nov. 15. The German discount retail chain is seeking preliminary and final Site plan approval along with minor Subdivision, variance, and waiver relief.

Lidl plans to construct a 29,640 square feet grocery store on Plainfield Avenue.

Variances are being sought for minimum lot area, minimum side yard, minimum parking spaces, minimum loading spaces, minimum sign area, and maximum illumination at the property line. The property is located near Edison train station. There are currently no development plans for the proposed lot.

The application was first brought to the planning board on July 12. Subsequent hearings were postponed. However, residents of Plainfield Avenue and Brunswick Avenue have opposed the plan citing traffic and safety concerns.

If approved this will be Lidl's third store in Middlesex County with locations already in Woodbridge and North Brunswick.

Lidl has around 11,200 stores in 32 countries and employs more than 310,000 people globally. They have over 100 stores in nine states across the East Coast.
