Family Displaced After Edison House Fire: Officials

All residents were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported, the fire chief said.

EDISON, NJ – A family living on Woodland Avenue were displaced from their home after a fire engulfed the structure on Sunday night, Edison Township Fire Department said.

Around 11:43 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, firefighters responded to a 3-alarm structure fire at a home on Woodland Avenue.

The homeowner reported smoke in the house and firefighters discovered a fire in the walls, Fire Chief Andrew Toth said.

All residents were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported to either residents or responding officers. However, the family is now displaced, Toth said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Middlesex County Fire Marshal and the Edison Township Fire Department. The fire is not considered suspicious.

South Plainfield Fire Department, New Brunswick Fire Department, and the Middlesex County Fire Marshall responded to help Edison firefighters.

Edison Mayor Sam Joshi asked residents to check their smoke alarms and remain cautious.

“Noting the increase in fires recently, I encourage everyone to please make sure your smoke fire alarms are working properly in addition to all basic fire safety precautions,” Joshi said.
