9/11 Remembrance Ceremony In Metuchen On Saturday

Metuchen is hosting a Patriot Day Observance on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Freedom Plaza.

METUCHEN, NJ — Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Metuchen will be hosting a Patriot Day Observance on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Freedom Plaza.

The event will be a solemn remembrance and reflection day. There will be brief remarks from local officials and a moment of silence. Small tributes of individual flowers or American flags are welcome.

The Patriot Day Observance is being organized by the Metuchen Volunteer Fire Department and Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce, with support from the Borough of Metuchen, Metuchen Police Department, and Metuchen First Aid Squad.

Nearly 3,000 Americans, including three from Metuchen, were killed in the suicide attacks carried out by 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaida on Spet. 11, 2001.

All victims will be remembered at memorial services planned across the nation, including Metuchen, to mark the 20th anniversary of the attacks.
