Metuchen Teen, Parents Charged With Violating Executive Order

Metuchen Police reported on Tuesday that the 16-year-old host and parents were charged with violating Gov. Murphy's executive orders.

METUCHEN, NJ – Metuchen police reported on Tuesday that a teen and parents were charged with violating Gov. Phil Murphy's coronavirus executive orders because they had a large gathering.

Police said the gathering happened in “early December" when officers responded to a house party attended by a “large group of juveniles”

After an on-scene investigation and consultation with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s office, police charged the 16-year-old host with violating Executive Order A:9-49H, which bans gatherings of individuals for parties or other social events.

At Gov. Murphy's press conference on Monday, Col. Pat Callahan, the superintendent of the State Police, had announced that police broke up a house party in Metuchen, but he offered few details.

The parents of the teen were charged with A:9-50, aiding and abetting the violation of an executive order, said police.

Since a juvenile was involved in this incident, the Metuchen Police Department said they would release no further information.
