Turnpike Worker Injured After Being Hit By Tractor-Trailer In Edison
William Martisch suffered serious injuries after a tractor-trailer went off the road, struck him and overturned, authorities said.
EDISON, NJ — A New Jersey Turnpike Authority worker was seriously injured when a tractor-trailer went off the road and struck him on Wednesday morning, New Jersey State Police said.
William Martisch, 55, of Union Beach was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital with serious injuries. No injuries were reported to the driver of the truck, police said.
At 8:47 a.m. Wednesday, a tractor-trailer hauling a shipping container was traveling in the southbound lanes at milepost 87.9 in Edison.

During that time, Martisch was conducting operations in the median between the outer and inner roadway at that location, police said. The tractor-trailer went off the road to the left, hit the guide rail, then struck Martisch, and overturned, authorities said.
The left lane of the New Jersey Turnpike outer roadway was closed for approximately six hours after the accident. It was reopened at 2:45 p.m. authorities said.
