5 Kilos Of Fentanyl Found During Bergen Traffic Stop: Prosecutor

Breaking: Louis Vasquez was driving the vehicle when authorities found the fentanyl and $6,000 in a hidden compartment, authorities said.

ENGLEWOOD, NJ — A Bronx man was arrested after five kilograms of suspected fentanyl and nearly $6,000 were found hidden in a vehicle during a traffic stop Tuesday, authorities announced.

Louis Vasquez, 49, of Bronx, New York, was stopped during a narcotics investigation in Englewood. His vehicle was searched and police found 5 kilograms of suspected fentanyl and nearly $6,000 in suspected drug proceeds in a custom-made, electronically-operated compartment, said acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said in a news release.

Vasquez was arrested and charged with second-degree possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, namely fentanyl, fourth-degree identity theft and third-degree uttering a false government document, Calo said.

Vasquez was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing Friday morning.
