Why is the Audubon/165th Post Office, customer service so poor? Is there nothing we can do about it? It's so disgraceful.
Location: Audubon/511 W. 165th Street NYC 10032-8777
This is probably the worst post office in the 50 states. Avoid. I live nearby, so only go when I need to to mail something quickly. I normally travel a few miles away to another post office where the service is friendlier, quicker, and more competent. The workers are bitter, rude, indifferent, and incompetent.
On 14 November,
I went to this Post Office to get stamps for 2 large envelopes. The Postal Clerk (Clerk #27) weighed the envelopes and told me I needed $1.80 postage for each envelope. I gave her $5.00, expecting to pay $3.60 for enough stamps to place on each envelope. She completed the transaction and gave me the stamps. I noticed 2 things immediately:
1. I had been charged 3.85 for 7 (.55 ) stamps. 7 stamps? I'm no math genius but I immediate knew this wasn't going to work
.
2. Since there were 7 stamps, there was no way that I could affix an equal amount of postage to each envelope. I mentioned this fact to Post Office Clerk #27 and requested that get an equal number of stamps that would make it possible to affix correct postage. She told me it wasn't her problem and not her job to figure which combination of stamps would equal $1.80.
Amazing. Even after I told her I needed postage for 2 envelopes, she gave me 7 stamps....what did she expect me to do? Affix 3 stamps on each and cut the 7th stamp in half? Outrageous!
I demanded to speak to her manager, who was helpful and "educated" Postal Clerk #27 with basic math that would allow the issuance of an equal number of stamps that would allow me to affix the correct postage of $1.80 on each envelope.
Postal Clerk #27 failed in several ways:
1. Rude customer service
2. Lack of essential knowledge of the job (knowing the various stamp values)
3. Lack of basic math skills
4. Lack of professionalism (after the manager, told which stamps to use to arrive at 1.80, she exuded an irritated attitude and shoved the correct stamps through the little slot, causing them to become wrinkled and folded.)
