Award Winning Film "The House I Live In"

The documentary film "The House I Live In"

As part of the national October Month of Resistance to Mass Incarceration, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Palisades will be showing the documentary film, “The House I Live In”. This is a startling and revealing film whose producers include notable activists Danny Glover, Brad Pitt and Russell Simmons and segments with Michelle Alexander, author of the trail blazing book, “The New Jim Crow, Mass Incarceration in the Era of Color Blindness.”

This film uncovers realities of the war on drugs rarely known, or revealed by the media. It shows how and why it started and how it has radically transformed our criminal justice system and police practices. See and hear what judges and police officers are saying about the ‘war on drugs’ and the unprecedentedly huge numbers of incarcerated, disproportionately victimizing people of color,. Why and how this causes deterioration of police professionalism and threatens the ability to deal with major crimes. Discover what drives the massive growth of the prison industry. See, in detail, the inescapable impact on inner city, minority communities.

The film is one hour long and will be followed by questions and discussion. The showing will be on Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 PM in the UUCP Meeting Hall at the Garrett Lydecker House, 228 Grand Ave., Englewood, NJ, 07631.
