'The Divine One': The Art of Sarah Vaughan
Music at St Paul's Presents: 'The Divine One': The Art of Sarah Vaughan Beverly Owens, soprano; Diane Goldsmith, piano
Join us on Sunday, February 22 at 4 p.m. for a concert honoring the legendary American jazz singer Sarah Vaughan. The concert will be sung by acclaimed soprano Beverly Owens and accompanied by pianist Diane Goldsmith.
The program will include “Body and Soul,” (her winning song at the Apollo), “East of the Sun,” “Black Coffee,” “Misty,” and more. The program will also include some video excerpts of Vaughan’s life.
Beverly Owens, soprano, frequently appears in performances throughout the metropolitan area. In oratorio, Ms. Owens has been soprano soloist in Handel’s “Messiah,” Mozart’s “Requiem,” Brahms’ “Requiem,” and Bach’s “Magnificat,” More recently, she appeared as soloist singing works by William Grant Still with the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra. Pianist Diane Goldsmith been acclaimed for her solo recitals in Lincoln Center and her chamber music in Carnegie Recital Hall and recently appeared at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington. Suggested donation is $20, $10 for students and seniors. Everyone is welcome!
